Testimonials

Julia Moskin

"Like Parma in Emilia-Romagna, Umbria produces spectacular aged prosciutto; like the Roman province of Lazio, it has richly flavored sheep’s milk cheeses and vegetables; like Tuscany, it boasts ancient traditions of making bread, olive oil and wine, and it has a staggering variety of beans and pulses. Umbria is Italy’s largest producer of black truffles, which are lavishly used in season (but not as prestigious as the ones from Piedmont).....Ms. Mattiacci is part of a new wave of cooks, farmers, chefs and bakers working to preserve and popularize the food of Umbria". (cit. NYT, Setp. 2016)

why our cookery classes are special

Personal

Almost anywhere in Italy you can join a large group and travel to a farmhouse or restaurant kitchen for a cooking class. You will probably prepare the standard menu of bruschetta, hand rolled pasta, classic tiramisu or may be pizza.

It will be a fun experience. However, if you want participate in a true cultural immersion and you wish to learn family recipes - without the help of an English interpreter -  you might prefer  a private kitchen atmosphere.

Classes at Alla Madonna del Piatto are limited to a small number of students so everyone can have an interactive and hands-on experience with the your instructor and owner, Letizia Mattiacci.

The school is on the family’s property, along with a boutique B&B, so she’s never too far away to answer your enthusiastic cooking questions.

An original twist

Letizia will also will teach you how to tune to your perception to what a dish needs to be successful.
